The
Lower Sacramento River
Known for it’s impressive catch rates and large chunky ‘bows,
the Lower Sac flowing from Redding to Red Bluff deserves the reputation
it has gained as one of the finest trophy trout fisheries in America.
With regulated releases from Shasta Dam, the fishing on this river
can be outstanding nearly any day of the year. An ideal driftboat fishery
with prolific caddis and mayfly hatches, the Lower Sac is an exceptional
nymph fishery where we practice and teach sophisticated extended drift
techniques. Summer evenings bring the best opportunity to consistently
find pods of ‘bows taking emergers or a properly presented dry
fly. Early spring and late fall months provide the lowest flows and
an opportunity to wade the expansive riffs. A fall driftboat trip down
the Lower Sac provides spectacular viewing of the annual spawning migration
of Chinook Salmon and provides the best opportunity to target the trophy
rainbow of a lifetime during the fabled “egg hatch”.
