Colorado fly fisher lands lunker on Upper Sacramento River, enters Shasta Trout’s “Hawg of Fame”

Dave lands a trophy September 21st

Dave, a visiting fly fisher from Durango,  Colorado landed a lunker in the first run, on his first day ever fishing on the Upper Sacramento River.  The wild trophy Rainbow Trout measured over twenty inches long and took some skill and patience to land.  The fish was one of the largest his local guide Craig Nielsen has  seen all season on the Upper Sac and took several strong runs and leaped a number of times.  Dave and his friend Keith, who is visiting from San Diego, enjoyed one of the best days of fishing all year on the river, catching fish in every run they sampled, including several ‘bows in a few runs.  Dave is a seasoned angler who is accustomed to hooking large Rainbows on the San Juan River, his local stream in Colorado and played the fish expertly, gaining him entry into Shasta Trout’s “Hawg of Fame.”
