Fly fishing guides celebrate 25th Anniversary at Steamboat Inn on the Umpqua River

Jerri takes a spey casting lesson with Umpqua Guide Tony Wratney

June 26th

How do fly fishing guides celebrate a 25th wedding anniversary?  Go fishing!  Craig and Jerri Nielsen, guides and owners of Shasta Trout, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at the Steamboat Inn on the famed Umpqua River.  They treated themselves to a guide date with Tony Wratney who has been guiding the fly water on the North Fork Umpqua longer than anyone.  Jerri had her first experience fishing with a two handed rod and landed a steelhead on a dry fly!  OK, it was just about twice the size of the fly but it was a fish.  Flows are just dropping on the Umpqua and the first sizable runs of Summer Steelhead have not yet arrived.  The  Umpqua is beautiful and magical with fish that are surface oriented, we hope and expect to return soon!
