Guide Craig Nielsen serves as Fishmaster for Shasta Trinity Fly Fishers outing on the Upper Sacramento River

The Shasta Trinity Fly Fishers scheduled a fishout on the Upper Sacramento River on July 26th with Shasta Trout fly fishing guide Craig Nielsen serving as Fishmaster.  Sixteen anglers tried their luck in conditions that turned difficult as air temps increased and the midday hatches and bite turned off.   Flows are low and clear, hatches were slow during the day and fish have gotten spooky.  Most folks left prior to the evening hatch when fishing has been at it’s best.  Craig fished with a couple novices, Nancy and Alan who each managed their first fish on a fly while learning how to fish dry flies, dries with droppers, nymphs as well as streamers.  We are looking forward to getting together again with several anglers from the club when the leaves have a bit more color and the October Caddis and Blue Wing Olives are fattening big ‘bows.
