In December and early January we were extremely busy with most of our guests chasing steelhead on the Klamath and Trinity Rivers with good success.  We hosted several groups including three trips at the Klamathon Lodge including a group from the Diablo Valley Fly Fishers and our very first Spey Weekend.  We have our next Spey Weekend scheduled this spring, March 11-13th, again featuring our all star cast of instructors Jeff Putnam, Jon Hazlett, Craig Nielsen and Chris King.   We also have a few prime openings at the Klamathon in late May and June for groups seeking to enjoy the spectacular Salmon Fly hatch.  Contact us at your earliest opportunity as we expect our Spey Weekend and Salmonfly dates to fill quickly.

Ron admires a heavy Klamath River Steelhead Ned with a chunky Trinity River buck steelheadSanta Cruz Group, Mike, Chris, Tim Loomis & Mark December started with some clear cool weather and a group from the Santa Cruz Fly Klamathon Lodge group with guides Jim Andras, Chris King, Craig Nielsen & Alan BlankenshipFishers organized by our good friend Tim Loomis, a sales rep for Dan Bailey and Guideline fly rods.  They took a steelhead tour fishing the Klamath and Trinity Rivers.  The newest addition to our guide staff, Chris King introduced a group of friends to a mid week trip at the Klamathon Lodge and all of them enjoyed catching numerous steelhead including a few of them who managed their first steelhead ever! The Ed’s,  father and son, enjoyed a couple days on the Trinity were the fishing was challenging but as usual they were up for the task and landed a couple exceptional fish, including a large hen that made the trip!

On the weekend of December 10-12th our Masters on the Spey weekend at the Klamathon Lodge was a tremendous success!  Eight guests enjoyed instruction by FFF certified casting instructors Jeff Putnam, Chris King, Jon Hazlett and Craig Nielsen.   Guests had this to say, “We came expecting the best but it was better than we expected, it was phenomenal!”  We are offering our next spey weekend at the Klamathon Lodge March 11-13th and currently have three spaces remaining, it is a great value at $795 all inclusive , drop us a line for details.

A colorful buck comes to net at sunset Tom finds a thick bodied wild buck early in the day Klamathon Lodge guests, Rob, Craig, Jim and Phil from Diablo Valley Fly Fishing Club with guides Craig Nielsen & Alan Blankenship The following week our first group from the Diablo Valley Fly Fishers joined us for a midweek Klamathon Lodge adventure on the Klamath River and enjoyed a fine mix of half pounders, juveniles, trout, and a few adult steelhead each day.  Everyone managed to catch fish every day and the group is already planning a return visit to this incredible lodge and legendary steelhead fishery.  Paul, a new guest, also enjoyed a day a successful day on the Klamath with great local guide Jim Andras.  The weather turned bitter cold and we had a few cancellations but the week before Christmas, Ed returned for a few days on the Klamath with his good friend Tom.  Despite the frigid weather Tom, a seasoned angler had his best steelhead trip ever!  Terry enjoyed a fine day catching trophy trout on the Lower Sac with Gabe Duran as did Steve and his father with Chris King.

Brian with a nice winter run buck Chris with a nice wild winter Klamath River Steelhead Andrew shows off a nice winer buck The last week before the new year, new guests Andan and Chris suffered well and found some fine steelhead on the Klamath while long time friends Steve, Andrew and his son William joined us for a bitter cold but productive day.  The first week of the new year, Brian Johnson, legal council for Trout Unlimited finally made it up for a visit on the Klamath with his good friend Steve who caught his first steelhead ever.  Craig has been working with Brian on a number of regional issues including relicensing of dams on the Klamath, McCloud and Pit Rivers and restoration of the Shasta River, a prime spawning tributary of the Klamath.  Rob joined Craig for his first successful steelhead trip at the end of the week while Gabe hosted John on the Trinity and Jim treated Penny to some steelhead on the Trinity as well.
