Novice fly fisher lands Klamath River trophy steelhead & enters Shasta Trout’s “Hawg of Fame”

Michael's first steelhead ever on a flyrod! Klamath River

January 31st

Fly fishing for steelhead on the Klamath River has been superb lately.  The weather has been spectacular, the water is low and clear and the fish have been grabby!  Several guests recently enjoyed their first experience fly fishing and all of them have landed multiple fish.  But they were all out done by Michael who’s very first fish ever was a large wild buck, which he expertly hooked, played and landed, gaining him entry into Shasta Trout’s “Hawg of Fame!”

Larry with a fish of a lifetime, a Lower Sacramento River trophy Rainbow! Michael was hosted by his good friend and returning guest Larry who also recently entered the Hawg of Fame with a Lower Sacramento River trophy ‘bow.  Larry and Michael fished a second day fly fishing on the Lower Sacramento River with local Shasta Trout guide Craig Nielsen and enjoyed a spectacular day with several fish to hand including a few trophy ‘bows but none quite large enough this time to make the fame.  They will be returning soon to try again!
