Wet Weekend on the McCloud & Upper Sac, Fall River and Lower Sac Oct. 2-4
We had our first storm and snow in Mt. Shasta this weekend. Daytime highs dropped nearly 40 degrees. On Friday Rebecca who was hosting Christa and Sig from Germany joined us for an adventure on the Upper Sac. Fortunately the change in weather got a few October Caddis to pop and a technical daytime nymphing session turned into an afternoon and evening complete with aggressive takes to our BIG dries! Some fish still preferred our small and tiny droppers but hanging them off our dry made casting and fishing a pleasure. Meanwhile Tom was have a superb day on the Fall River fishing dries to sipping trout with Frank while Fred treated Ryan to the Lower Sac where the Salmon have arrived and the egg bite went off! Some BWO’s found some fish as well. Craig headed over to the McCloud Saturday morning with a couple of fishing brothers, Michael and Carlo who nymphed into the early afternoon and then were delighted to find a BWO hatch in progress. The brothers hooked several, landed a few and headed for lunch and an evening session on the Upper Sac where they found some very selective fish sipping emergers. Hoping for more Caddis did no good so we showed some patience made a few fly changes, perfected our presentations and stuck a few fish. A great way to get the fall season underway!
