Dave lands son Kyle's Buck

Glen, Rick, Matt, Dave, Kyle & Matty

This was Craig’s third year visiting the Situk with this great group of guys.  This season it was a father son trip with Rick bringing his son Matt and and Dave bringing his son Kyle.  What a treat to share the magic of Alaska with them.  We arrived to tough conditions, weather had been unseasonably warm and clear, the water was low and clear and all the fish were hiding.  Those we did find flared from the slightest movement or would disappear after a few casts.  Kyle wasn’t deterred by the technical conditions and lit it up the first few days on a Black Bunny Leech.  We all tried the fly without nearly as much success so opted to rub his lucky hat which turned it all on for us on Wednesday.  A little rain probably helped as well.  The remainder of the week fished solid for us, Matty was the top rod, reaching double digits a couple days but we did not find as many fish as in the past.  We did land some memorable fish including two fish over 40″ in one day by Glen who has really got this fishery figured out.  He picked up some very difficult fish on the swing in a glassy tailout with a switch rod at the end of the trip that no one else could get close to.  What a great adventure!  For more pics of this spectacular venue just click the picture on the left of Kyle (in his lucky hat) and father Dave with a nice fall buck.

Craig, you make any fishing trip a pleasure. Thanks for your kindness. Your expertise and willingness to share are amazing. Much, if not, over 90% of what I know about this addiction I owe to you. Thanks, Glen

Craig, Glen, Rick, Matt, and Company: glad to hear you made the most of the trip this year. The good weather makes for tough fishing but beautiful scenery. The images you brought back are images that haunt me every spring, when I think about our little “Steelhead Mecca”, in Alaska. Wish that I could have been there, too. Craig, thank you for your beautiful website and photos. See you next year.
