Upper and Lower Sacramento Rivers: Fly Fishing Guide Trip Reports

Nick lands another Lower Sac Beauty Mike finds some Mojo Emerald flows and chrome 'bow Upper and Lower Sacramento River Fly Fishing Guide finds early season success.

March 18-24th

Fly Fishing on the Upper Sacramento and Lower Sacramento Rivers is improving daily with the warm weather and hatches taking off.  While the dry fly fishing hasn’t yet materialized the nymphing has been good to great.  We’ve enjoyed some beautiful days with Osprey, Eagles, Ducks, Geese, Herons and Egrets returning to riverside to set up house keeping while the Redbud is in full bloom.

Late morning to early evening on the Upper Sac has been best with small caddis and mayfly nymphs.  The action for a Lower Sac group trip including Mike, Nick, Kevin, and Mikka who had scheduled their day as a business retreat was superb.  Some BWO’s got us started in the morning until the wind came up a bit and slowed the bite.  In the afternoon the famed spring caddis showed as did the fish.  The fishing improved all day as some March Browns and PMD’s showed as well.  A couple of the guys were new to fly fishing so it was a treat for Craig and and fellow guide Greg Hector to get them into their first fish!  What a magical day with a great group of guys, the satisfying day left them refreshed and invigorated for their evening meeting!
